Posted by the blogfather in : film & tv, reviews , add a commentMy first and short film review.
Caught this flick recently by one of the better film director’s around these days, M. Night Shyamalan.
Producer of one of my favourite films (Unbreakable) I am now finding you tend to know what to expect from Shyamalan, what is not to be expected is how he is going to wrap it up and present it!
Bluntly put I loved this film. It was a fresh of breath air amongst the vast abyss of action packed, fast paced blockbusters that seem to be ten a penny these days. Beautifully shot, well casted with a haunting soundtrack are some of the things that made this stand out for me. Mark Wahlberg’s performance as lead character, Elliot Moore deserves a mention, thought he was brilliant in this role.
The story is compelling and timely and in typicall Shyamalan fashion keeps you wondering after the final credits - don’t wan’t this to be a spoiler review so won’t go into great detail - INSTEAD GO SEE IT.

Posted by the blogfather in : sport , add a commentA quick post to say congratulations to Spain on winning the European Championships and to Rafa Nadal on winning Wimbledon! Also the emergence of Pablo Larrazabal the Spanish rookie who won the golf French open - one to watch?
Has been a great summer for the Spanish in sport and it’s at times like this I’m most proud of my Spanish heritage!
Would loved to have done a more in depth review of what was two great tournaments but have been really busy as of late - maybe in the future?
New R.E Developments.. June 25, 2008
Posted by the blogfather in : education , add a commentAs part of a national review of the school curriculum in Scotland, draft proposals are being published on the outcomes and experiences which children and young people should be offered between the ages of 3 and 15. As part of this review, the Catholic Education Commission has worked in partnership with Learning and Teaching Scotland (LTS) - the Scottish Government’s curriculum advisory body - to draft proposals for the teaching of Religious Education in Catholic schools.
LTS has published two documents offering guidance on the teaching of Religious Education in Catholic schools. These are draft proposals on which comments are invited between June and December 2008. Therafter there will be further consideration prior to the publication of final guidance.

Coldplay - Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends… June 25, 2008
Posted by the blogfather in : music, reviews , add a comment Being a big coldplay buff from the early days of yellow and trouble I was naturally very excited about this latest release. When I first heard the single release of violet hill before the album release I was a bit indifferent but thought I would wait for the album to pass judgement! I can thankfully say that since getting the album it has rarely been of my various sound systems. On first listening I didn’t perceive it as being anything special and nowhere as good as parachutes my favourite coldplay album. But this is a record that definitely grows on you and with it comes the appreciation of coldplays genius as a band and as songwriter’s. I still don’t think it’s as good as parachutes but they have come along way since the simpler days and have matured into a very much more complicated musical machine. Songs continue to be more wonderfully complex and composed with good arrangement that doesn’t try to conform to the expected norms found in what is popular - ironically, for me this is what makes it appealing! I watched a review in which Viva la Vida was dismissed as Celtic rock with stupid lyrics this couldn’t be further from the truth. Martin’s lyrics are at times strange but catchy and times genius. Stand out tracks for me are Lost, Viva la Vida and Strawberry Swing.
Great album go listen!

Faith and Peace in Public Life from the experience of the peace process May 19, 2008
Posted by the blogfather in : talks / lectures , add a commentThis Lent I spent a month attending the Gonzaga lectures 2008 at St Aloysius’ College: a series of 4 lectures based around a central theme.
The lectures were first established as part of St Aloysius’ College’s outreach to the wider community. They take their inspiration from the centuries old Jesuit patronage of intellectual enquiry and spiritual development. The titles of the lectures witness to the width of their scope and their relevance to life the Church and Society in present day Glasgow. They have been running since 1995.
The theme this year was ’Faith in Public Life’ - I am happy to present the first of these talks with the the others following one each month.
